If It Had Not Been for the Lord

When I said, “My foot slippeth,” thy mercy, O Lord, held me up.
It doesn’t make sense that we’re still here. Let’s be honest—if we trace the story back, we all had moments that should have taken us out. But we didn’t fall because we were strong. We’re still here because God’s mercy wouldn’t let go.
There are days when the weight of life starts slipping under your feet—when anxiety, grief, temptation, or disappointment grips so hard you can’t see straight. You feel like it’s over. And somehow… you’re still standing.
God’s mercy catches what we didn’t see coming. Like black ice under a tire—slick, silent, dangerous—life hits suddenly. But God was already there.
David wrote from experience. He said, “In the multitude of my thoughts within me, thy comforts delight my soul.” That means the racing thoughts, the sleepless nights, the depression, the uncertainty—it didn’t have the final word. God did.
There’s no shame in slipping. What matters is the hand that held you. Some of us tried to walk away from God. Others were about to end it all. And some were just numb. But God kept holding on.
You didn’t make it this far because you always got it right. You made it because God never left. His mercy does more than forgive—it secures, it strengthens, it stays.
So today, don’t just move on with your day. Thank Him. You might not remember the date or time, but you know this much: if it had not been for the Lord, you wouldn’t be here.
